Naya creates community ritual, ceremonial, and altar arts that invite collective reflection on roots: root causes of injustice, reclaiming roots, ancestral roots, and more. She works with earth materials and ancestral plants, from maíz/corn to black-eyed peas. Through altar making, she brings sacred objects and teachers from African-American, Black Mexican, and non-Black Mexican/Xicana histories, migrations, and medicine into conversation while interrogating the boundaries between them.
