Crafting Black Ecologies at AAG 2022

For the 2022 American Association of Geographers Meeting (AAG), I’m excited to gather with fellow community builders, makers, and crafters for “Crafting Black Ecologies”, two virtual panels at the crossroads of black ecologies, critical studies of craft and material culture, and art-based methods.

If you’re attending AAG, join us by Zoom for Session 1 (Makings) at 11:20 AM EST / 10:20 AM CST / 8:20 AM PST. Session 2 (Landscapes) begins at 2 PM EST / 1 PM CST / 11 AM PST. The sessions will also be recorded.

Fellow panelists include Jennifer Blanks, Tianna Bruno, Ayana Omilade Flewellen, shah noor hussein, Danicia Malone, Morgan P. Vickers, and Jennifer Steverson.

In addition to participating, I’m an organizer for this panel. While co-creating the space, I was imagining (confession) a space that I also needed! One where artist-scholar and maker-scholar can be cultivated and deepened, a space to share creative inquiry grounded in theory and praxis. I look forward to what emerges.

The Crafting Black Ecologies sessions are sponsored by the Black Geographies and Latinx Geographies specialty groups. They are also part of this year's AAG Climate Justice theme. The panel theme is inspired by generative bodies of work on Black ecologies and on critical craft and material culture.

Note: Attending this event does require conference registration, and to my understanding the recordings are only available to attendees. Not going to AAG? Join the e-letter for news about any related events in the future!

Onward,

Naya
